Treat an advertisement as one measured test. Pick one service, one customer group, one area, one channel, and one spending limit. Record the result before you repeat or expand it.
Download the advertising test log. It records the offer, dates, spend, enquiries, quotes, bookings, and notes.
Four channels for a first test
These are hypothetical test ideas, not evidence that a channel will produce bookings. Choose one. Check its rules and get permission before you post or leave printed material.
| Channel | One small test | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| Local community group | One permitted post naming the service, area, and quote link. | Group, post date, enquiries, bookings. |
| Referral partner | Ask a relevant local business to display a truthful service card. | Partner, agreed placement, referral source. |
| Community noticeboard | Place one card where the board owner permits business notices. | Location, display dates, enquiry source. |
| Your business profile | Publish one service post with a direct quote-request path. | Post date, clicks if available, enquiries, bookings. |
Use your own work photos with customer permission. If you use a stock image, label it as illustrative; it cannot prove your results. Keep any endorsement or referral arrangement clear.
Choose one offer
State a service you can perform and price. “Maintenance wash in [area]” is clearer than a general claim about the best detail. Keep the same scope in the ad, reply, quote, and invoice.
Set a fixed test limit
Write a total dollar limit and end date before the first placement. Use a small amount you can afford to lose. Do not add spend after one enquiry. Finish the test window, then read the record.
| Line | Record |
|---|---|
| Offer | Service, condition limit, area, and booking path. |
| Spend | Total limit and amount used. |
| Enquiries | Count and source recorded in the enquiry log. |
| Bookings | Booked jobs that match the stated offer. |
| Decision | Repeat, change the offer, or stop. |
Keep claims and reviews honest
The Federal Trade Commission says advertising claims must be truthful, supported, and not deceptive. Do not promise a result, local rank, price, availability, or review outcome you cannot support. Ask for reviews after the job without writing the review for the customer.
Read the cost with the booking count
Cost per enquiry is total spend divided by recorded enquiries. Cost per booked job is total spend divided by booked jobs. If either count is zero, that cost is undefined; record the zero count rather than dividing by zero. For an illustrative test with $60 spent, six enquiries, and two booked jobs, the costs are $10 per enquiry and $30 per booking. These are invented inputs, not benchmarks.
Use the first-ten-enquiries log for each reply. Use the business-card layouts when the same offer needs printed copy.
