What to put on a car detailing flyer

A flyer has a few seconds to tell a stranger what you do, where, for how much, and how to book. Most people read it from a few feet away, so less text works better.

  • A headline that names the service. “Mobile car detailing” says more than a slogan. Put your service area under it.
  • Three or four services with a starting price. A price answers the first question every customer has. Use “From” prices when size or condition changes the total.
  • Reasons to book you that a customer can check. “We bring our own water” is a fact. “Best detail in town” is a claim you would have to prove.
  • One offer, with its terms. Say who it is for and when it ends. An offer is optional.
  • Your phone number, large. It is the one line people must read correctly. The maker sizes it to fill the width.

Tear-off tabs

On a notice board, most people will not stop to type your number. Tear-off tabs let them take it with them. The print flyer has 8 tabs along the bottom, each with your business name and phone number. After printing, cut along each dashed vertical line up to the dashed horizontal line. Leave the tabs attached at the top.

Print it at the right size

The print flyer is 8.5 × 11 inches. The image download is 2550 × 3300 pixels, which is 300 dots per inch at that size, so text stays sharp on a home or office printer. Print or save as PDF adds a thin white border, so a home printer never cuts off the edges. Keep the default scale in the print dialog. To get a PDF, choose Save as PDF as the printer.

The social post is 1080 × 1350 pixels, a tall 4:5 image that fills more of a phone screen than a square. Post it on Facebook, Instagram, Nextdoor, or as a photo on your Google Business Profile. Copy as text gives you the same flyer as a short post for a neighborhood group.

Where to put flyers up

  • Notice boards. Laundromats, grocery stores, gyms, coffee shops, community centers, and apartment lobbies. Ask the manager first, and come back to replace taken tabs.
  • Businesses near cars that do not detail. Tire shops, oil change shops, and car washes without detailing may let you leave a stack or trade referrals.
  • Doorsteps and door handles. Rules for handing out flyers door to door differ by city and by neighborhood association. Check your local rules before you go.

Never put a flyer in or on a mailbox. The U.S. Postal Service's Domestic Mail Manual (section 508, 3.1.3) says mailboxes “may be used only for matter bearing postage”. This includes items “placed upon, supported by, attached to, hung from, or inserted into a mail receptacle.” A flyer left there without postage is subject to the same postage as if it had been mailed.

Keep prices and offers honest

The FTC's advertising guide for small businesses explains that ads must be truthful and that you must be able to back up your claims. Check each price with the pricing calculator before you print it: it must cover your time and costs for that job. Honor the prices and the offer the flyer shows until the end date you print. Questions

Is the flyer maker free?

Yes. There is no account and no email. Your entries stay in this browser and are saved on this device only. You can turn off the small “Made with detailcompass.com” line under Style.

Can I use the prices from my price list?

Yes. If you made a list with the price list maker in this browser, choose “Use my price list”. Each service gets its lowest price as a starting price. The flyer has room for one price per service, so give customers the full list when they ask.

Do I have to show prices?

No. Leave a price blank and the service is listed without one. If no service has a price, the flyer leaves out the tax line too.

Can I change the design?

You can choose the accent color, the headline, and the call to action. For full control, open the downloaded image in a design app and build on it.

Next: plan how you will track the calls a flyer brings in with how to get your first detailing clients, and compare flyers with other channels in car detailing advertising ideas.
