Ceramic coating curing time: plan the handover

Separate the dry-storage period, permission to drive, and first wash. Build a dated schedule from the exact coating instructions.

Ceramic coating curing time comes from the exact product instructions. Keep the water-exposure wait and first-wash wait separate. Gtechniq EXOv5 requires at least 12 dry hours and a week without washing. Ceramic Pro lists a 2-to-3-week cure and at least 2 weeks before washing.

Confirm the installed product, final layer, and conditions with the installer. A dry-storage minimum alone cannot set the collection time. Record permission to drive, water restrictions, and the first wash as separate decisions.

Find the instructions for the installed coating

Match the instructions to the full product name and version. Keep a dated copy with the job ticket. A brand name alone leaves too much unknown.

  • Record each coating and any top layer. Identify which instructions apply to each layer.
  • Record when application finished, including the date and time zone. Confirm the starting point for each waiting period.
  • Check the required temperature, storage, ventilation, and safety directions. Read the product label and safety data sheet.
  • Ask the installer for the approved collection time and first-wash date. Resolve differences between the care sheet and manufacturer instructions.

For a planned installation, confirm that the site can meet these requirements. If protected storage is unavailable, change the booking or site. Do not promise a collection time the site cannot support.

Read each waiting period separately

Use these manufacturer examples to identify the questions for your job. They describe different products and different milestones. They do not rank coatings or replace the supplied instructions.

Gtechniq lists the Crystal Serum Light indoor period. Its EXOv5 instructions give separate dry and wash waits. Ceramic Pro starts its wash wait at delivery. Check these clock origins before adding dates.

A top layer has its own instructions. Do not copy the base coating finish time into every line. If the documents conflict, ask the manufacturer or installer to resolve the schedule.

Worked example: an EXOv5 schedule

This hypothetical job uses EXOv5 alone. Application finishes Monday, October 26, 2026, at 4 p.m. Eastern. Assume the site meets the product requirements and stays dry. These are planning inputs, with no vehicle inspection or coating test.

  • Dry-period calculation: Monday at 4 p.m. + 12 hours = Tuesday at 4 a.m. Eastern.
  • First-wash calculation: Monday at 4 p.m. + 7 days = Monday, November 2, at 4 p.m. Eastern.

An 8 a.m. Tuesday collection clears the stated dry minimum by 4 hours. The schedule passes that time check. Collection still needs installer approval and compliance with every other product requirement.

A Monday 8 p.m. collection provides only 4 dry hours. The schedule fails the 12-hour check by 8 hours. Keep the car protected and move the collection time.

The week-long wash restriction remains after Tuesday collection. Give the owner the calculated first-wash date. These times establish compliance with the stated waits; they do not measure complete chemical cure.

Hold the release when a check fails

Release the vehicle only when all recorded requirements pass. Check the planned journey and parking against any water restrictions. Passing a clock check does not resolve rain exposure or an incomplete care sheet.

  • Pass: the product is identified, and all waits required before release have elapsed. Record installer approval and compliance with remaining restrictions.
  • Hold: a product, clock origin, condition, or care instruction is unknown. Ask the manufacturer or installer, record the answer, and rerun the check.
  • Hold: the planned storage or journey would break a stated restriction. Agree on a compliant plan before moving the vehicle.

If rain, sprinklers, or contamination reach the coating early, contact the installer promptly. Record what happened and when. Ask for the method approved for that coating and curing stage.

Do not improvise with polish, an acidic cleaner, or extra heat. A recovery method must match the product and surface. Ceramic Pro directs owners to their installer for guidance on contamination during the no-wash period.

Close out the job ticket

Use the blank coating handover record to record the product, source, finish time, restrictions, and approved dates. Keep completed customer records private. Give the owner the care instructions and installer contact.

For the wider service decision, compare paint-protection options. Use the coating cost and maintenance page for the separate pricing and routine-care tasks.

Recheck the manufacturer instructions when the product or installation plan changes. Replace the schedule when its inputs change. Keep the earlier record with the job history.

EXOv5 may be used alone and requires at least 12 dry hours and at least 1 week before washing after application. The hypothetical calendar uses these waits only; elapsed time does not measure chemical cure.

General aftercare lists a 2-to-3-week cure depending on humidity and temperature, avoidance of water and rain, and no wash for at least 2 weeks after delivery. Owners should consult the installer about contamination during that period. Exact package instructions still require confirmation.
