Choose a detailing cart only when it fits your service, movement path, and storage space. Confirm its load limits and delivered cost. Keep your existing bins or workbench when those already do the job.
A cart moves supplies around a work area. It also needs a parking space between jobs. Its empty weight, shelf layout, and wheels can make it unsuitable before price matters.
List the service kit first
Pack the supplies for one service you already offer. Keep reserve stock on its existing shelf. A larger cart adds no value when the extra space holds unused equipment.
Use the service equipment list to separate essential tools from optional upgrades. Then make a cart list for the items you reach for during that service.
- List each bottle, brush, towel container, and tool.
- Measure each item, including spray heads, handles, and cords.
- Weigh filled bottles and packed containers. Include the containers themselves.
- Mark where each item will sit. Check shelf space and access to each handle.
Download the blank fit record below to keep measurements and source details together. Leave an unknown limit blank until the manufacturer confirms it.
Measure the route and parking space
Measure the full cart envelope, including handles and loaded holders. A shelf measurement alone cannot establish whether the cart will pass through a door.
- Record the smallest clear door opening along the route.
- Measure corners and the space needed to turn beside the vehicle.
- Record floor joints, thresholds, ramps, and any wet or uneven surfaces.
- Measure the parking space, including overhead shelves and access to the supplies.
The Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety identifies aisle width, ramps, floor condition, and combined cart weight as handling factors. It advises pushing carts wherever possible.
Use a full-size cardboard outline to screen the route. Add the handle and holder projections. Leave room for your body and hands. A cardboard outline checks space; it cannot establish loaded handling or stability.
Pass: the planned cart fits its parking space and full route with room to operate it. Fail: any obstruction prevents access or turning. Change the cart size or route, then repeat the check.
Stop selection when a threshold, slope, or surface needs an unconfirmed capability. Ask the manufacturer about that exact route and planned load.
Check the exact model specifications
Use the specifications for the exact cart model. The manufacturer pages below were checked on October 16, 2026. These are specification examples. Detail Compass has not tested either cart.

Adam's bottle claim covers its own 16 oz bottles. Check your bottle shape and spray head clearance separately. Ask Innovative whether your chosen holders extend beyond its listed dimensions.
Innovative links its Material Cart assembly instructions. Those instructions identify assembly steps and hardware. They do not establish a load rating. Obtain the current instructions for the exact configuration you order.
Confirm shelf load and storage
A load check needs both the total capacity and each shelf or holder limit. Empty cart weight does not give either rating. A caster rating alone cannot establish the assembled cart capacity.
Ask the manufacturer for the total payload, per-shelf limits, and required load distribution. Payload means the supplies and equipment carried by the cart. Ask whether the limits change while moving.
Add the items assigned to each shelf. Compare each subtotal with its confirmed limit. Compare the whole payload with the confirmed total limit. Include planned additions in both checks.
Pass: every subtotal and the whole payload meet the applicable limits. Fail: any limit is exceeded or unconfirmed. Remove items or get the missing rating, then rerun the check.
Chemical Guys recommends sealed storage for fully dry, clean towels. Keep that container separate from used towels and leaking bottles. Follow chemical labels for storage and compatibility.
Keep the existing towel care rules in place when supplies move onto a cart. Check that the clean container opens without removing other items.
For mobile work, plan how the cart travels to the job. A rolling work cart still needs a separate vehicle load and restraint check. Use the van setup guide for the vehicle layout. Do not treat caster locks as travel restraints.
Compare delivered cost and existing storage
Compare the full cost with the work the cart will do. Use a dated seller quote for your address and exact configuration.
Delivered cost = cart price + required accessories + shipping + tax + assembly charges, if any.
The Innovative listing adds to $807 before tax or other charges: $737 + $70 = $807. Adam's lists $229.99. Neither checked listing establishes your final delivered total. Confirm stock, charges, and return terms with the seller.
| Option | Use it when | Reject or change it when |
|---|---|---|
| Existing bins | You can carry the service kit safely and keep clean supplies enclosed. | Repeated carrying or poor access interrupts the work. Reduce each load or change the storage. |
| Existing workbench | You work beside a fixed station with enough clear space. | The vehicle or workflow blocks access. Change the work position or storage. |
| Detailing cart | The kit needs to move around the vehicle and every fit, load, and cost check passes. | Any check fails or remains unknown. Keep the existing setup while you resolve it. |
Log supply trips during several comparable jobs. Record the time spent collecting and returning items. Compare that time with the cart setup and cleanup time. Count a time saving only after measuring it.
Worked example: a storage check
The following workspace and kit inputs are hypothetical. They describe an indoor interior service. The cart dimensions and price come from Adam's checked listing.
| Line | Input or result |
|---|---|
| Parking space, hypothetical | 40 in long x 24 in wide x 42 in high |
| Adam's listed envelope | 35.5 in long x 17.75 in wide x 38.5 in high |
| Unused parking length | 40 - 35.5 = 4.5 in |
| Unused parking width | 24 - 17.75 = 6.25 in |
| Unused parking height | 42 - 38.5 = 3.5 in |
| Packed service kit, hypothetical | 12 lb of bottles + 6 lb of tools + 5 lb of towels and containers = 23 lb |
| Combined moving weight | 32 lb cart + 23 lb hypothetical kit = 55 lb |
| Total cart budget, hypothetical | $300 |
| Budget left for other charges | $300 - $229.99 = $70.01 |
The listed cart fits inside the hypothetical parking rectangle. The remaining space is shared across opposing sides. It does not prove enough hand clearance, turning room, or access below an overhead shelf.
The purchase stays on hold. The route still needs checking. The 23 lb payload needs confirmed total and shelf limits. A delivered quote must stay within $300 for the cost check to pass.
The Innovative cart fails this hypothetical parking check. Its listed 67 in height exceeds the 42 in space by 25 in. Select another parking space or remove it from this shortlist.
Keep the existing bins until the open checks pass. Record each answer in the fit record. Repeat the check when the service kit changes.
Record the selection
Use one record for each cart candidate and your existing setup. Write down the service, route, shelf loads, source dates, and delivered quote. Mark each check pass, fail, or unconfirmed.
Download the blank detailing cart fit record. Finish the missing measurements first. Order a cart only after the complete plan passes.
