Ceramic coating certification: compare what it covers

Choose training, brand approval, or skills assessment for your service. Compare entry requirements, cash costs, owner hours, and approval terms.

Choose ceramic coating certification by the result you need. New installers should start with supervised preparation and coating practice. Established businesses seeking restricted products should investigate the exact brand installer program. Detailers seeking a broader assessment can investigate the International Detailing Association (IDA).

Record the issuer, product, assessment, and permission attached to each certificate. A brand decides access to its installer network. Local authorities decide business permits. Keep those checks separate.

Choose the outcome first

Your needPath to investigateEvidence to request
Learn preparation and coating applicationSupervised coating courseIndividual practice, observed work, correction of errors, and the exact certificate
Join a specific brand networkThat brand’s installer applicationCurrent eligibility, product access, territory, approval, and ongoing terms
Demonstrate broader detailing knowledge and skillsIDA certification assessmentsCurrent assessment scope, prerequisites, fees, and renewal terms

A certificate of completion records the outcome stated by its issuer. Ask whether attendance, a written test, or observed work earns it. Record separately whether completion permits product purchases, warranty registration, logo use, or an installer-map listing.

For a skill gap, use the training comparison method. Request individual practice time for the full task. Ask who observes your attempt and how you correct an error. Choose instruction that covers the service you intend to sell.

Compare current program examples

The following U.S. examples were checked on October 4, 2026. They serve different needs. Recheck the exact program, date, availability, and written terms directly.

ProgramPublished entry or outcomeListed fee and open costs
P&S University paint correction and ceramic coating classPreparation, correction, coating installation, completion certificate, and installer-map eligibility$495; listing showed Unavailable. Confirm a bookable date, practice time, and inclusions.
Gtechniq U.S. accreditationFull-time operation, experience with high-end paint correction and Gtechniq coatings, physical application/cure workspace, available territory, and business review$1,000; requires online or in-person training and includes a welcome kit. Confirm added costs.
CQUARTZ Professional U.S. application2+ years of correction-focused business, dedicated shop, insurance, review, then invited orientation$350 application + $700 orientation = $1,050. Confirm travel, current terms, and additional costs.

The P&S course listing covers preparation, paint correction, and its coating line. Completion brings a certificate and eligibility for its installer map. The page does not quantify each student’s supervised tool time. Request that detail and the assessment standard.

The Gtechniq U.S. application lists at least 35 operating hours per week. It also lists 2 business years and 6 years of personal detailing experience. Applicants need high-end paint correction experience and experience with Gtechniq coatings.

The area must be available in the network. Workspace must be in a physical building with enough room to apply and cure coatings.

Gtechniq lists $1,000, required online or in-person training, and an included welcome kit. It invites consideration even when an applicant misses a basic requirement. Approval remains with Gtechniq.

A new mobile business should request a direct eligibility answer before reserving travel.

The CQUARTZ Professional application requires a dedicated shop, insurance, and 2+ years in a paint-correction business. It requests correction photos under different lighting. Its $350 fee covers the starter kit and coatings after application approval. It lists a separate $700 orientation payment.

The orientation listing states a $1,050 combined program cost. It restricts purchase to applicants already invited. Confirm the payment recipient and approval sequence.

These pages describe CQUARTZ Professional. Ask separately about Finest Reserve authorization.

The application page promises a $350 refund if the application is denied. The orientation page promises a $700 refund if approval fails after orientation. Its broader refund wording leaves the earlier fee unclear at that stage. Obtain the complete refund policy for each stage.

Keep skills testing separate

The IDA certification overview describes 10 written Phase I exams. Phase II uses hands-on assessments. These assess broader detailing knowledge and performance. They do not establish permission from Gtechniq or CARPRO to join a brand network.

The accessible IDA overview does not establish today’s booking fees or a coating-specific practical assessment. Its main certification pages blocked automated access during this check. Ask IDA for current prerequisites, coating-related scope, event costs, and renewal requirements. Keep those entries unanswered until confirmed.

Run the application check

Your application check passes when each entry requirement is met or the issuer confirms an exception. Confirm the outcome, terms, date, and costs within your limits. The issuer still decides admission and approval.

  1. Name the target service and exact program. Identify the product authorization you need, if any.
  2. Record business age, personal experience, workspace, insurance, and territory requirements. Ask the issuer about any exception.
  3. Confirm individual practice, observed assessment, and correction of errors where training is the goal.
  4. Itemize required payments, included products, travel, tax, shipping, renewal, minimum purchases, and optional upgrades.
  5. Confirm acceptance, cancellation, refunds at each stage, and the earliest bookable date.
  6. Record approved product access, warranty duties, directory listing, logo use, and any limits on other brands.

An unanswered requirement keeps the check open. A confirmed unmet requirement fails it. Request an exception or choose a program you can enter. Do not label an application as approval.

Worked example: a course budget

All inputs in this example are hypothetical. The unnamed course fee is $600. Travel costs $180, materials cost $70, and a tax allowance is $50. These inputs do not price a named program.

LineHypothetical calculationResult
Cash needed$600 + $180 + $70 + $50$900
Owner hours8 class + 4 travel + 3 practice15 hours
Owner-hour value15 hours x $25 per hour$375
Planning cost$900 cash + $375 owner-hour value$1,275

The hypothetical limits are $1,000 cash, 16 owner hours, and $1,300 planning cost. Those checks pass. Owner-hour value is a planning allowance. Keep it separate from cash paid.

If hypothetical travel rises to $300, cash becomes $1,020. Planning cost becomes $1,395. Both cost limits fail. Choose a closer course or revise the budget, then rerun the check.

Budget approval remains open until the provider confirms inclusions, practice, assessment, and a bookable date. Include later required payments in the cash total. An unknown payment cannot be entered as $0.

Check readiness for customer work

Training and brand approval leave separate checks for paid work. Read each product label and safety data sheet first. Confirm permitted surfaces, protective equipment, ventilation, application conditions, cure time, and disposal. A safety data sheet gives chemical hazards and handling instructions.

Ask the instructor to observe preparation, a test section, application, excess removal, inspection, and correction of an error. Use an authorized practice surface and follow its product instructions. Obtain the owner’s consent for practice and photos. Keep customer and vehicle details private.

The Small Business Administration describes licensing, zoning, and insurance as separate business checks. Confirm local requirements with the issuing authority. Ask your broker whether the policy covers your proposed correction and coating work.

Explain the exact credential in customer copy. State the issuer, program, and current status. Claim warranty coverage only within the provider’s written terms. Keep job records, customer approval, cure instructions, and aftercare together.

Use the certification worksheet for one program. Resolve every open entry with its issuer. Then define your first approved service on the job ticket.

The comparison uses published program terms. No course attendance, provider inspection, coating test, or firsthand application is claimed. The hero shows a stock polishing scene. It does not show one of these programs.
